Brachytherapy : overview

Brachytherapy is a method of cancer treatment in which we put directly the radiation source into tumor volumn. Then these radiation sources will kill the cancer cells.

Applications:

1. Cervical cancer
2. Skin cancer
3. Prostate cancer
4. Breast cancer

Sources:
The souces are placed into the tumor in cases of prostate cancer or breast cancer. Or they are put near the tumor in the skin or breast cancer.

Permanent brachytherapy is often performed for prostate cancer using "seeds" - small radioactive rods implanted directly into the tumour.
